A Cypress, Texas man is being held in jail after his spouse accused him of having too many wives, according to Harris County court records.
Nathaniel D’amato, 46, is in the Harris County Jail on $10,000 bond on charges of bigamy, a second-degree felony.
A woman who married D’Amato in April said she discovered days later that he was already married, court records show.
D’Amato married a woman in Michigan in 1998, and legal documents show that the marriage is still valid, according to investigators. His wife also claims that D’Amato is “still married to several other women,” according to the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4.
Another woman, who previously dated D’Amato, testified that he knew he wasn’t divorced. The ex-girlfriend funded divorce attempts twice, and both were dismissed, she said.
D’Amato is a firefighter, a Harris County public defender said in a probable cause hearing Tuesday morning.
